The setting of goals, and then working hard and smart to achieve them, is a significant habit that separates the 5% of people who are in successful in life from the 95% who are not.
If you are in that 95% then do not give up, as there is nothing inherently wrong with you, it is just a case of never having been properly educated in goal setting.
It is important to pay attention to the working hard and smart part of goal setting, as simply setting goals is not enough. Plenty of people within the unsuccessful 95% regularly set goals, but then they forget about them, which means that they may as well not have bothered to set them in the first place. Setting goals and then working hard will also not be sufficient for you to become successful, as unless you are working hard at the right things, which is what is meant by working smart, then most of that hard work will be wasted. A self-assessment is necessary then: Are you setting goals? Are your working hard? Are you working smart? If you answered 'no' to any of those questions, or even if you answered 'yes' to all of them but things are still not working out for you, then it is time to change your approach. A goal setting system that you should consider is one created by Lanny Bassham, who is a 3 times World Champion & Olympic Gold Medalist. Here is an outline of that system. . . 1) Know exactly what it is that you want to achieve. 2) Decide when you want it. 3) Establish what benefits you stand to gain from it. 4) Determine the obstacles in your way. 5) Evaluate what you will lose (time, people, money, etc. ) in your pursuit of it. 6) Write an overall action plan. 7) Break the overall action plan into a daily routine. 8) Start right now, not next week, month or year. 9) Have future goals in place to push you on after achieving the first one. 10) Never stop until you have achieved what you set out to do.
There is nothing overly difficult in there, right? And, it all seems like good common sense, right? So, why not give it a try? By using this system, there is no reason why you can not achieve everything that you want to.
It has worked for others, and it can work for you too.
