You can join a number of open lists that allow any one sign up. However, some need the approval of the list creator before you are allowed to be a part of the mailing list. Heavy fines have been imposed for companies that spam. To avoid black listing, a company must never send an unauthorized mail to a client. Monitoring this kind of system would keep an administrator quite busy in the back office, particularly for a client list that is large.

The mail manager sorts through the list and ensures that only the right mail is sent to the right person at the right time. This leaves a very minimal chance of there ever being a human error. Such companies, in their supposed quest for business will fill your email inbox with lots of spam. Do not share your personal contact information on a website if you are not sure about the company.
