Cozy Holiday Series

Recently, cozy mystery books have been rising in popularity. And within the cozy mystery genre, holiday themed cozies have also been increasing in popularity. Some authors of the cozy mystery book subgenre specialize in holiday and special occasion mysteries.

These authors usually write their mystery books in a series format.

The following is a list of a few authors whose mysteries take place during major holidays and other special occasions, like birthdays and weddings. Kate Borden (aka Kate Grilley)Borden pens the Peggy Jean Turner mystery series. Along with her best friend, Mayor Peggy Turner solves crimes in her quaint New England town, often during holiday seasons. Mary Higgins ClarkAlthough Mary Higgins Clark writes mystery books not set during all of the special holiday settings, she has written several mysteries which take place during the Christmas season. Some of Mary Higgins Clarks books are co-authored with Carol Higgins Clark, her daughter. Jane Haddam (aka Orania Papazoglou)Jane Haddam pens the Gregor Demarkian mystery series which features a retired FBI agent as the series' sleuth. Demarkian and Bennis Hannaford (an author he teams up with) solve mysteries during different holiday settings: Hanukkah, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, and even New Year's. Lee HarrisThe star of Harris's works is Christine Bennett, an ex-nun who solves mysteries. Harris is one of the few mystery authors to have included a Cinco de Mayo holiday theme mystery. Kate Kingsbury (aka Rebecca Kent)Kingsbury writes the Pennyfoot Hotel mystery series. This particular mystery book series takes place in Great Britain, during the early 1900s. Recently, Kingsbury has limited the Pennyfoot Hotel series to mystery books that take place during the Christmas season. Leslie MeierThe Lucy Stone mystery series is written by Leslie Meier and features a housewife with several children who she must care for, while finding time to solve mysteries. Meier writes mysteries for not only the major holidays (Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas) but also for “smaller” holidays like Fourth of July, Mother's Day, and Father's Day. Livia J. WashburnWashburn writes the Fresh Baked mystery book series. This holiday theme mystery series features a Texan who leaves the teaching profession and then becomes a baker, with a penchant for sleuthing. Valerie WolzienWolzien writes the Susan Henshaw mystery series. Wolzien's series includes several books that take place during the holiday season, especially Christmas.
