Indulge Yourself At One Of These Peaceful Meditation Centers

There are many communities with a meditation center, so it would be futile to try and discuss them all in this limited space. However, we can look at a few different locations to get a sense of what's being offered. Some facilities have daily hour-long classes, while others specialize in spa treatments or fully immersive week and month-long meditation retreats.

You needn't attend a center to find your own personal place to meditate. Many people practice right at home, yet few people enter a meditation temple and leave unchanged.

In Los Angeles, the Kadampa Meditation Center is a comfortable white building nestled in the Elysian Valley between Griffith Park and Dodger Stadium, with convenient access from Highway 5.

They offer a number of classes, day courses, study programs and retreats. Kids, individuals, couples and families can all attend classes, which focus on breathing techniques, meditation, a short lesson and discussion time.

Their website explains Kadampa Buddhist teachings as such: “If we do not maintain a peaceful state of mind we are not happy even if we have ideal conditions. On the other hand, when our mind is peaceful we are happy even if our external conditions are unpleasant. ” Rigorous study programs, meditation teacher programs, lunchtime meditations and temple ceremonies are all available. In 1976, the Advaita Meditation Center opened in Massachusetts to help individuals “quiet the mind, open the heart and know yourself. “

Their curriculum studies the texts of literary greats like Ralph Waldo Emerson, hosts open meditation evenings for seasoned pros and offers special open houses and introductory sessions for beginners. Mantra meditation, involving the repetition of a low sound, is one of their effective methods of teaching, but they also use breathing techniques, contemplation and reflection. Seminar participants can learn more about Sanskrit, yoga, Kabbalah and spiritual questioning. Weekend retreats are centered on relaxation, meditation, social gathering and healthy eating. To learn more, visit www.adavitameditation.org. To find a meditation center in your state, you can visit www.gosit.org, which lists independent meditation centers across the country. Here you can find meditation books, look up local resources and add comments about meditation classes you've been to. Currently, there aren't very many user comments, but you'll find the descriptions of what each center offers to be very helpful at least.

There are also links to the center websites so you can easily research what's available in your area. Some people choose exercise or therapy to eliminate their stress. Others use simple meditation exercises to help them see the problem or situation in a different light. Mindfulness meditation is tool used by millions to help enhance their lives and free themselves of stress. categories: meditation center, meditation, health, wellness
