Step By Step Carpet Cleaning

Extracting is yet another method of carpet cleaning and will help to extend the life of your carpets; however, if performed incorrectly it can actually shorten the life.

In light of this I would encourage you to add this into your janitorial training program. For the purposes of this article the carpet extraction cleaning method will be discussed. Many may not be aware that there are primarily only three ways of carpet cleaning. From most effect to least here is the methods; shampoo, extracting, and bonnet cleaning.

The extraction method of carpet cleaning I feel is the quickest and easiest method to use. However, you need the right machine for the right job.

I would not recommend going out and buying the least expensive one unless you have already done your comparison shopping. Pay special attention to the power of the vacuum motor.

The carpet extraction cleaning equipment and supplies you will need to properly perform carpet cleaning are; Vacuum Cleaner with attachments, Carpet Extraction Cleaning Machine (either walk behind or wand), Carpet Extraction Cleaning Solution and Spot Remover Product, Pretreatment Chemical and Applicator, Cleaning Rags for Spot Cleaning and Equipment Clean Up, Floor Fans, and Wet Floor Caution Signs. Before getting started I would strongly suggest you select an out of the way area so that you can test the cleaning solutions to make sure they will not discolor or harm the carpet fibers. As a suggestion you may look for a closet that is carpeted. Carpets such as wool are very difficult and require special chemicals and I would stay away from cleaning them unless you are an expert. Prepare your carpet extraction cleaning machine by filling it with chemical according to the manufacturer's specifications, and move it to the area to be cleaned. Whether it is electric or battery operated make sure it is placed so that no one passing by can turn it on by accident. Put some type of barriers up to keep people off the carpet while it is being cleaned, along with wet floor signs in the event they disregard your barriers. This is especially important if the carpet is next to a tiled floor. Remember a tile floor is extremely slippery when your foot wear is wet.

If possible remove the furniture and then vacuum the carpet thoroughly without forgetting the edges. Prior to extracting the carpets work on any of the spots you see using your spotting chemical. After this it is time to apply your pretreatment solution and allow the appropriate amount of dwell time. Begin the extraction process you should work from the furthest point in the room and then working your way forward. Keep in mind that applying to much water will break down the carpet fibers quicker and shorten the life of the carpet. After you have completely cleaned the carpets place the floor fans in the right location to quickly dry the carpets. When you are certain the carpets are dry replace the furniture to the original places. This is important to customer satisfaction. Last but very important part is to clean the equipment.

It will prolong the use of it and most importantly this will add to your bottom line.

In addition, the customer will be impressed that not only do you clean carpets well but you present a very professional appearance throughout the process.
