Use Financial Aid to Get a Grant a Mom of 5 Did It

A few years ago I decided to try to finish getting my degree by applying for financial aid. I applied for the pell grant and got it! It was me and 2 oldest kids at the time, so times were tough. The youngest started his venture in kinder garden and I was off on my wait to try to make an example of myself by finishing school!

I searched the Internet for a Pell grant and how to apply. I was surprised at how easy it was, I applied on line, for free and the school received the grant directly. I signed up for 4 classes at a community college. The grant that I received was enough to cover my class cost, my books, and I had plenty left over to help with covering some child care for my kids so I could have extra study time.

I only went for one semester because, well life happens. I got married and had 3 more kids! Talk about life happening! Now, 8 years later, its just about time that I try again. My youngest is only 2, so I have a while yet before he starts school. I don\’t want to be in a class room while he\’s still so little. I did a little research and found out that I can take at home classes at the same school I was attending before!

Now isn\’t that good news? I wont have to worry about finding an accredited school that operates on line. You read me right, I can go to the same local school and take on line video courses from home. This is great! I can be with my kids, whenever I want and I can do my classes after bed time or during nap time! Everything is online. There are discussion boards to communicate with your teacher and classmates and a website to get your tasks on. I may have to go to the campus once or twice, but thats it. Everything else is at home. What is even better is that the pell grant will cover the video classes too, just the same as regular online classes.

You want some advice? If you are contemplating finishing school there is no reason to wait until until your kids are in school. You should go ahead and call around and see if they have the same video course classes as they do on campus classes. To my understanding the credits are the same, the only difference is you don\’t pay for gas to go and you can stay at home with your kids to do the classes!

So now when he starts Kindergarten, instead of me saying as soon as he starts school I\’ll go back to school, now I can say that when he starts school I\’ll be starting my new job because I was able to finish my school at home, and use the grant to cover the fees.

I am a stay at home mom of 5 kids, all but one is in school. I found some greatfree grant information about getting a federal grant to cover my expenses to finish school. Anyone can, look here for information today!
