The building of Blair Castle started in 1269, under the command of John I Comyn, the Lord of Badenoch, a northerly neighbor of the Earl of Atholl.

The Earl was away, fighting in the Crusade's, when his neighbor began to build of his castle on his land. When he returned, the Earl complained angrily to the Scottish King, King Alexander III about the interloper, and won back his lands. Rather than demolishing the tower than John I Comyn had built, the Earl decided to amalgamate the tower into his own castle. A Great Hall and a number of vaulted chambers were incorporated into the castle over the centuries, by different Earls.

It was the 2nd Duke of Atholl who, in 1740, decided to renovate the castle as a Georgian Mansion. Killiecrankie Visitor Centre: During the period of the Jacobites Killiecrankie, near to Pitlochry, was full of the sounds of battle.

The government soldiers were destroyed by an army of Jacobite soldiers, under the leadership of Bonnie Dundee. During the bloodthirsty battle a soldier evaded capture by leaping across the River Garry, which became known as, Soldier's Leap.

The area about the Pass and gorge were a favored place of Queen Victoria. To discover facts concerning the famous battle one should visit the Killiecrankie Visitor Centre.

The Visitor Centre has a collection of otherexhibitions and services, which include; guided walks, a natural history of the area and ranger service's as well as many others. Scottish Hydro Electric Visitor Centre: A power station is a bizarre place for a tourist center, but this is just where you can find the Scottish Hydro Electric Visitor Center.

The center is found inside the resplendent Pitlochry Power Station, and includes interactive displays tracing the development of hydro power in Scotland, starting in the nineteen forties up until the present day.

The Pitlochry Dam, which was constructed between 1947 and 1951, gives tourists the fascinating opportunity to observe the amazing salmon ladder via three observation areas. Within the Scottish Hydro Electric Visitor Centre, you will also find audio-visual presentations (interactive) which explains in detail this naturally occurring display.

The turbine hall of Pitlochry Hydro-Electric Power Station can also be viewed from inside the Visitor Center.
