She was a tough Italian woman that refused to admit she couldn't do something but this was becoming too much to overcome. We had a difficult decision to make about her future and what would be best for her. A nursing home was out of the question and moving was also not an option.
The church she attended everyday was right next door and being a devotedly religious person she couldn't bear the thought of not being able to go to church everyday. We made the decision to have a stair chair lift installed so she could remain in the place that made her the happiest. We contacted several companies that installed stair chair lifts and were somewhat surprised at the prices. Because of the layout of the brownstone the cost was going to be very expensive. My grandmother was on a fixed income and couldn't pay for the stair chair herself.
