What Are Wood Pellets And Our Future Fuel Demands?

Some of you may not be aware of wood pellets actually are, but are interested to find out.

The simple definition of wood pellets is that they are a modern green heating fuel made of up different wood resources compressed into pellet form. So how are wood pellets made? Well, the main piece of equipment used is known as a pellet mill, but also known by names such as a pellet press or pellet machine.

The all work under than same principle of heating and then compressing the wood into pellet form. Different types of wood sawdust produce different types of fuel pellets. However, one very important factor is the sawdust must be free from contaminates such as metal or stones, as this will create serious issues for the wood pellet equipment and possible damage. To heat smaller properties the wood pellets can then be used in a pellet stove. Depending on the size and heat output of the pellet stove, it could be used to heat one room or several rooms within the property. Pellet stoves can also be very decorative and a focal point. To heat larger properties, a wood pellet boiler is used. As wood pellet boilers are larger and not as appealing to look at, they are generally placed in the basement or an out building. Wood pellet boilers come in various heat outputs, to heat any size of building. At this point you maybe very interested in moving to wood pellets and dropping your existing oil or gas based heating system, but may still have concerns over maintenance. Wood pellets actually require very little work. Cleaning the pellet burner once a week is generally sufficient and some pellet burners actually clean themselves. As the ash from burning the wood pellets is so minimal, you will only have to empty the ash draw once a week.
