Looking After Your New Car

If you're the proud owner of a brand new car, you're probably anxious to avoid your latest addition to the family obtaining any knocks or bumps for as long as possible. What about your average wear and tear that just seems to occur naturally to cars over time? Is there a way this can be avoided? Well, while it's doubtless that your car will gradually wear down over an extended period of use – where the only way to preserve it completely is to not use it at all – there are certainly plenty of things you can do to care for your car that will ensure its engine continues purring for a lot longer than you think.

If you spend even just a little time checking over your vehicle and providing it with the proper care, you can extend its life significantly – which is good news for both your car and its value for money! Even just a little regular maintenance goes a long way in the motoring world, and simply by spending a couple of minutes a day and around ten minutes each week going over your car and checking that it's ready to function at its peak, you could extend its life and save a bundle through preventing future repairs and replacements. Each day, all you need to spend is a minute or two examining the wheels for cuts or abrasions that could be damaging, glancing under the car to make sure there are no leaks and – one that can really come back to bite you if not paid attention to – that you have enough fuel.

It's a good idea to always try to keep your fuel tank at least a quarter full and many people make a habit of carrying a spare galleon with them for times of emergency. Finally, while moving off, check your brakes by lightly pressing them as you move forward – this crucial check could save lives. At the end of the week, make a more thorough enquiry into your car's health by checking your tyres: tyre pressure, tread depth, the presence of any foreign objects. Look after your wheels and they will do the same for you by lasting longer.

You should also check your car's oil and water levels, as well as your screen wash and that your lights are still working. Finally, service your car regularly, keep your MOT up to date and, of course, grab some new car insurance – before enjoying your car's life to the fullest and the savings you'll make in the process.
