What with all the slagging matches and general unfriendliness that's occurred between members of Take That and ex member Robbie Williams, it may come as a shock to many to hear that Williams has rejoined the band and is preparing to release a brand new album, as well as tour with the four men he originally did the same thing with twenty years ago. Having disbanded in the mid-90s, Take That reformed in 2006 but didn't quite receive an enormous amount of public attention until 2008, which is the period when many bands from the 90s were making a comeback for one final tour, including the Spice Girls and Boyzone. This time around, Take That was comprised of only four members: Gary Barlow, Jason Orange, Mark Owen and Howard Donald. Robbie Williams, having quit the band due to his drug problems and his claims he was not being taken seriously for his ideas, had enjoyed a powerful solo career which dwindled when he moved to the USA to take up other hobbies. After the success of Take That's comeback, Williams attempted to form his own, but his return to the public eye was met with less regard than his former band's. This could have been what spurred Williams to return to Take That, a move which took place only recently after news that Take That frontman Gary Barlow and Williams had been spending some time together writing songs. Now that the quintet is fully formed once more, the band is preparing to release another album and begin to appear at concerts in their first shows as a full band since Williams' departure in 1995.
The new album, thus far without a title, is set for release in November this year and has already had its first single announced – a tune entitled
The Floor which will hit the shops in the same month, probably coinciding with the album's release.
It could be the case that Take That is hoping for a Christmas number one and, due to the band's popularity with both old and new audiences alike, it's very possible that they might just succeed. What isn't certain is whether or not the five-piece will remain together to enjoy a new career well into the future, but it's doubtless that fans of the original line up will be delighted by the reformation.
The Take That new album is set to be released on November 22 and pre-orders are already available.
