One thing that unites all businesses and companies is a shared need for office space. This space may be only a burger van or desk in your front room, or it may be a number of separate business sites spread throughout the world, but every business needs a space from which to operate; even online companies. Because of this, finding good office space should be easy, as there is such high demand for it, but unfortunately excessive competition and a huge range of sizes and uses means that finding the perfect place for your company can be tricky. When you are looking for a new office space, its important to draw up a check-list of exactly what you are looking for and what features any potential space should have. For many companies their brand image is their key asset, so they may look for the most lavish and eye-catching office space in the expensive part of town, whereas someone just starting out may find some luck searching the ads for a local desk share scheme. For everybody though, finding a place at the right cost is always a priority.
There are many estate agents who can help companies source commercial premises and space, but if you are starting out on the business ladder or are perhaps just in need of a small office, then it is worth considering your options. Would you be happy to share your space? If so you could save money easily and, if you choose your neighbour well, you could even help each other out. For example a web designer might be able to share their office with a small marketing agency or graphic designer, which could be mutually beneficial for all involved. Likewise, if you only require the office basics and are more in need of an office 'address' rather than the space that comes with it, you could look into leasing meeting rooms or renting a hotdesk in an existing office. Critical to finding the perfect office space is clearly identifying exactly what your business needs are and, importantly, what you project they will be within the parameters of any lease agreement.
The first thing to solidify is exactly why you need an office? Is it to take on more staff? To meet clients in? Or storage even? If it is for any of those reasons, then there are always cheaper alternatives, like booking hotel meeting rooms, working from home or keeping stock in a storage facility. Should a small company get a small office which fits them perfectly, or should they factor in growth? Factor in growth certainly, but not at the expense of paying crippling monthly rent or energy bills, and certainly don't aim any higher than is realistic. Once you have found the perfect office space in Liverpool , Bournemouth, London or wherever you need it, always make sure the lease is in the company's name and register your new office in business directories.
