Grooming Dogs

When one thinks of grooming, one immediately brings to mind good looks and vanity. However, grooming is a whole lot more than just that. Grooming dogs on a regular basis helps stave off all kinds of disease which can be brought about by infections. So, we have just provided the reason why dogs should be groomed regularly. And now we should also review, in detail, the steps which need to be taken as part of the grooming process. Brushing your dog's teeth daily is the most difficult aspect of grooming but it is also the most essential.

Your dog will resist at first but if you persist with patient training, he or she will eventually learn to put up with it and even like it. As you approach the task, always remember that his or her healthy teeth and gums are no less important than yours. Another very important part of grooming is clipping your dog's claws, especially the dewclaw which has a tendency to curly back into the flesh and cause seriously painful infections. Many dogs do not like this process either but, again, patient and diligent training will make them realize that it is really not all that bad. This task should be tackled at least once a month.

The next on my list of important aspects of grooming are the ears. Some breeds of dogs are more susceptible to ear infections than others but they all need their ears to be tended to at least once a month.

The good news is that cleaning the dog's ears is not nearly as daunting as brushing the teeth or clipping the nails but your dog will still need to be trained for it.

Your dog might have long hair or short hair.

Your dog's outer and inner coats may be thick or thin. But regardless, he or she needs to be brushed every day. Do it gently but firmly and use a brush that is well suited and your dog will not complain as the process feels like a soothing massage as it stimulates blood circulation and relaxes tired muscles.

It is invigorating and beautifying. For more information about dog grooming as well as all other information about caring for your dog, please go to Dog Products.org – the number one source for everything dogs.
